Yasai Itame Cooking Instructions - Japanese Sauteed Vegetable Recipe (野菜 )
- Finely chop the yellow onion
- Peel the carrots before cutting crosswise into thin strips. I used about half of the roots.
- Finely chop the green peppers. I used beans, bell peppers, and chickpeas, but you can use any cup.
- If using chickpeas, remove the stems, then add them and divide in half.
- Do the same for the green peas and cut them into 2 inch lengths
- Peel the ginger and cut it into 8-9 thin slices
- Finely chop the garlic clove
- Cut the cabbage leaves into small pieces. I have 4-5 sheets here.
- Cut the pork belly into strips about 2 inches long
- Reduce heat to medium-high or high, depending on your oven. Heat 1 teaspoon of oil.
- Add ginger and garlic. Saute until fragrant.
- Add sliced yellow onions and continue frying for a while
- Add the pork and cook until it is no longer pink. Pork belly is fatter. That's why I didn't add much oil at first. The bacon grease will be enough to mix everything together.
- Add carrots. It's a good idea to add vegetables that take longer to cook first. Keep stirring.
- Add the green beans, peas and paprika to the mixture and stir for a few seconds.
- Add cabbage and bean sprouts
- Add 1 teaspoon soy sauce, 1/2 teaspoon oyster sauce and 1/2 teaspoon salt for seasoning. Keep mixing. You can adjust the salt to your taste.
- The whole frying process takes 6-8 minutes. You want the vegetables to be cooked through but still crunchy, tender and not wilted. Turn off the heat and transfer the yasai itame to a serving plate.
- Grilled vegetables should be served immediately with hot rice. Have a good time!
